    Auto-hide Taskbar Fails to Auto-hide

I set the Taskbar tab (in Taskbar & Start menu Properties) to Auto-hide the Taskbar. When I select Apply, the taskbar dips and disappears for a second and then comes right back and stays there.

Is there a way to make the auto-hide work?

    Thank you

HI! You can use this nifty 3rd party free software to hide the taskbar and re-enable it when you need to! On a personal note i find the taskbar in Win.7 a wonder! Different strokes for different folks,i guess!

Download ShellWin: Partially Hide/Show Windows 7 Taskbar With ShellWin

You should not have to use a 3rd party to get your Taskbar to do this. The only thing I can suggest is set it to auto hide/apply/okay. It shouldn't take a reboot but it doesn't cost anything.

Click on a free space of the desktop when you are done with the settings.

I've heard some programs can interfere with Auto-Hide working correctly...

If this problem just started, did you recently install any new programs?

    Some things you could try:

    • Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if Auto-Hide works.
    • Turn off all unnecessary start-up programs in msconfig and see if it works.

I had this problem episodically from W95 !!
Now I Have W7 and suddenly it appears and don't go away.
Seems that the O.S. think there is an open Balloon, even if the balloon is not !

Googled the Web, found an interesting utility that seems can solve it:
"Taskbar Slapper" from NovaFrost BUT it s not anymore available.

Luckily I found another one, I tries it .. It fix forever the problem and give you a bonus:
    It delay the taskbar!!!
