I can't seem to make that problem manifest itself. It's probably from a program or something you installed.

Could be my usb modem driver maybe? but it still happens when the modems unplugged? but I guess the drivers are still there.

My speedtouch 330 modem can blue screen if I boot up windows with it plugged in. Only vista drivers are available for it.
I have to wait for all the services to load at bootup then plug my modem in for it to work with no blue screens. I tryed to run the modem in vista sp1 compatibility mode but the problems the same either way?

From what what others say here and everywhere else, having certain USB items plugged in will cause these types of problems. So you may be correct in your assumptions.

I guess windows updates will sort a few kinks out along the way. It's still kinda early days really. Thanks for the responses everyone.

have you tried the old hide and seek method.

Copy all the .cpl files in c:\windows\system32 to a folder in your desktop and delete all the .cpl files from your system32 directory.

Open control panel, see if it hangs :)

Then move the .cpl files from desktop to system32 directory one by one and open control panel and check if it hangs.

By this we can find the culprit :)

Thats a really good idea, never heard about the hide & seek method before.

I'm switching Isp's and i'll have a new router modem in the post by now so I can uninstall my usb modem drivers in a few days and see if thats the route of my problems, I don't want to risk removing them just yet incase I can't get back online. If that fails i'll give the hide & seek method ago. Thanks for the idea.

Type wscui.cpl in run and hit enter. This will bring you the action center. Search for explorer hangs report and post the results here :)

i have problems with IE8 just stopping on me. Sounds like the same bug. I have no other bugs on X64 RTM. My fix for the IE 8 hangs is to install chrome beta. Looks good runs even better with no hangs. 2nd choice is Firefox. Im really surprised MS hasn't got this browser thing fixed by now.

DUI70.dll is the Windows Direct UI Engine , so the problem is more likely related to you graphic card drivers would suggest updating your video drivers, disable aero, and run sfc /scannow (you will need to run this in an administrator console).
