    plz helpp> 32 bit to 64 bit windows 7

    Dear all,

I bought last week brandnew Toshiba Laptop with 8 Gb ram. When I started it asked me whether I want to select 32 bit or 64 bit system, I selected 32 bit. I back up the system (32 bit) on 4 dvds. But since I have 8 Gb I want to have 64 bit OS. How I can do it? I dont have any disk except the back up I made for 32 bit system. Help will be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

    Zoombash

Are you sure its 32 bit?
Most setup installations from comapanies like Toshiba/Dell/HP do not let you decide between 32 bit or 64 bit.
It just is one or the other.

Also can you post what model your laptop is ?
Usually found at the bottom of laptops.

Start > Right Click "Computer" > select "Properties", and then look next to "System type" in order to identify which type your laptop is using. If it says 32-bit or 64-bit, that's what it is and it cannot be changed with a preloaded OEM operating system (at least not in my personal experience).

Similarly, if your laptop doesn't have a 64-bit compatible mobo and processor, I'm afraid you are SOL on ever getting it to utilize the full 8GB of RAM under x64 (retail copies of Windows 7 DO permit you to choose, but 64-bit will not work with all processor and mobo configurations).

On the other hand, if it did actually let you choose the first time (which again I've never seen before), then I suppose you could try performing a factory image restore (under the advanced boot options menu and "repair my computer" or similar option) to try and get that same screen to return on what the system would think was 'first' start again. Very easy, albeit time consuming process. Details on exactly how to do that on your specific computer should be in your manual (the process, keys, else the wording, is different for all brands so I'd check your manual before turning to the internet).

    Good luck!

If you bought it last week and it has 8 gigs in it, it will most definitely have a 64 bit capable cpu. What`s the model.

I would call them, there has to be a way to redo it.

You could always download the 64 bit iso now that you`ve made recovery discs, but you`ll need a proper key to activate it.

Providing you still have a recovery partition, you should be able to do a factory restore.

Make sure your computer is switched off.

Restart your computer and hold down the 0 (zero) key on your computer.

You should be offered the choice of 32-bit Windows or 64-bit Windows.

Choose Windows 7 64-bit and complete the recovery procedure.

Failing that, you can order 64-bit recovery discs from Toshiba.

    Thanks alot all,

Unfortunately I went to recovery part from boot up, and selected some option of deleting the partition which was taking ages, I than cancelled it. And found a option to recover from backup (DVDs) and it gave me option to select 64 bit system. First 3 DVDs worked fine but last one was ejected or rejected, meaning it was not burned properly. My pc is stuffed now. Now I am trying download windows 7 home premium 64 bit and will activate it with the key mentioned on the back of the laptop. Please advice if this correct and what is the simple way to get all the Toshiba drivers together. My laptop is Toshiba Satellite , L 750, Part No: PSK2YA-0LM02V.

    Many Thanks

As long as the sticker on your laptop is also Windows 7 Home Premium then it should work with that key.

The best place for Toshiba drivers is, of course, their support site: Toshiba Laptop Support homepage - Toshiba

Burn to DVD or write to flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool

Boot and follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM

At the step to choose partition where to install, use the Drive Option tools to delete all partitions, create new as you wish to format, or just click Next to let the installer create and format your install partition.

Thank you Greg rocker and all,

I did download the win7 from your given link and installed it. But it was not activating (offline) using the product key given on my laptop. Am i doing something wrong???
It was saying that you need to run setup for win 7 or have product key for windows 7 home premium?

On my laptop sticker it says above the product key , Windows 7 Pro OA.

    Please advise.

    Many Thanks
