    Saving thumbnails or icons.

i have a some folders with lots of icons or lets say pictures.
so when windows start to make thumbnails it can take some time and
    it's quite irritating.

i've noticed, that it only happens when i restart, so when the thumbnails are created they probably stores at some location and after restart they are deleted.

is there a way to save those thumbnails or previews so when i access specific folders they will show right away with no delays?

Sounds like you have some software the runs either on startup or shutdown that is cleaning these things out. Windows by default doesn't delete these things. Unless maybe there is a size limitation of the cache I'm not sure.

    Thumbnail Caches are here: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

Icon Cache would be here: C:\Users\Logic\AppData\Local\IconCache.db

ok nice to know where they are located
but what about how to make them permanent?
    or increase the cache?

I couldn't tell you cause for me they persist when I restart and I currently have at least one over 26 MB in size.

I have the same problem, shayx. I don't think it's a widespread problem because everybody I've talked to about this on various forums haven't encountered this problem. This happens on a clean install, so there are no cleaning programs that are clearing the cache. I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with my hardware or hardware drivers. Maybe we could compare computers and see if we have something that matches and go from there. Just a thought.

It might help shayx if you filled out your: "My System Specs" by clicking at the Bottom-Left.

Shayx has already done that, so you can see what he has...

also I've noticed that it's creating thumbs.db files. They're hidden, so you have to "show hidden files" and uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and no, they're not left over from XP. Vista didn't create these and I don't think this is normal. We have to get this figured out before the end of october when it's released. haha. so frustrating.

Thats just it Windows Vista/7 does not create thumbs.db. Something else is creating those files but it is not Windows 7 or Explorer.

    Did you check these?

Also, have a nice run with CCleaner on your machine. The registry part of it too.
