Saving thumbnails or icons. i have a some folders with lots of icons or lets say pictures.
so when windows start to make thumbnails it can take some time and
it's quite irritating.
i've noticed, that it only happens when i restart, so when the thumbnails are created they probably stores at some location and after restart they are deleted.
is there a way to save those thumbnails or previews so when i access specific folders they will show right away with no delays? | My System Specs |

Sounds like you have some software the runs either on startup or shutdown that is cleaning these things out. Windows by default doesn't delete these things. Unless maybe there is a size limitation of the cache I'm not sure.
Thumbnail Caches are here: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
Icon Cache would be here: C:\Users\Logic\AppData\Local\IconCache.db | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Alienware Aurora ALX R4 OS Windows 7 x64 (SP1) CPU Intel Core i7-3930K (3.2GHz, Turbo 4GHz) Motherboard Alienware Aurora-R4 x79 Memory 4x Samsung 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (16GB 1600MHz) Graphics Card Nvidia Geforce GTX 690 (Stock) Sound Card RealTek Integrated Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp U3011 Screen Resolution 2560x1600 Other Info Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz; 1GB; Windows 7 Ultimate) |

ok nice to know where they are located
but what about how to make them permanent?
or increase the cache? | My System Specs | | OS Windows® 7 Ultimate X64 CPU Core 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0Ghz 12MB Motherboard DFI LanParty DK P45-T2RS+ABS Memory G.Skill DDR2 2GBx2 1066MHZ CL5 Graphics Card Sapphire RADEON HD 4870 512MB DDR5 Sound Card Creative Audigy 2 Value Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 2243WM Plus Screen Resolution 1680X1050 PSU SilverStone Olympia 750W Case CoolerMaster 690 Cooling OCZ Vendetta 2 Hard Drives Hitachi 320GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB

I have the same problem, shayx. I don't think it's a widespread problem because everybody I've talked to about this on various forums haven't encountered this problem. This happens on a clean install, so there are no cleaning programs that are clearing the cache. I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with my hardware or hardware drivers. Maybe we could compare computers and see if we have something that matches and go from there. Just a thought. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 RTM / Windows Vista SP2 CPU AMD Athlon 64 4200 X2 Motherboard Asus A8N5X (NForce 4) Memory 2GB Graphics Card ATI HD3850 Sound Card SoundBlaster X-Fi Hard Drives Maxtor SATA 160 GB, Maxtor PATA 250 GB, WD MyBook External 500GB |

also I've noticed that it's creating thumbs.db files. They're hidden, so you have to "show hidden files" and uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and no, they're not left over from XP. Vista didn't create these and I don't think this is normal. We have to get this figured out before the end of october when it's released. haha. so frustrating. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 RTM / Windows Vista SP2 CPU AMD Athlon 64 4200 X2 Motherboard Asus A8N5X (NForce 4) Memory 2GB Graphics Card ATI HD3850 Sound Card SoundBlaster X-Fi Hard Drives Maxtor SATA 160 GB, Maxtor PATA 250 GB, WD MyBook External 500GB |

Thats just it Windows Vista/7 does not create thumbs.db. Something else is creating those files but it is not Windows 7 or Explorer. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Alienware Aurora ALX R4 OS Windows 7 x64 (SP1) CPU Intel Core i7-3930K (3.2GHz, Turbo 4GHz) Motherboard Alienware Aurora-R4 x79 Memory 4x Samsung 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (16GB 1600MHz) Graphics Card Nvidia Geforce GTX 690 (Stock) Sound Card RealTek Integrated Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp U3011 Screen Resolution 2560x1600 Other Info Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz; 1GB; Windows 7 Ultimate) |
