Hard drive failure on preloaded HP laptop - how to obtain copy of os?

Hi - I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop and getting alerts saying the hard drive is failing. I've pushed all my data up to NAS storage and will install a new hard disk but... How can I get a replacement of Windows 7 Home Premium. With the drive failing, Windows is becoming unstable and I need to do a fresh install on the new drive once it's installed.

    Thanks for you help.

Click on the option that says order recovery media. It will cost you some money, but you will be able to reinstall. Also, before you buy recovery discs, you should try creating a system image:

Hi Wampus, Welcome to the forums ,Along with windude99's excellent advice you could also download the official copies and use the product key that is on the underside of your laptop
Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 English Official ISO download
Win7 Home Premium x86 SP1 English Official ISO download
    hope this helps you :)

If I'm thinking correctly, those iso won't work because those are for retail product keys and Wampus wants to install using the oem product key from HP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when i tried to reinstall using one of those it didn't like my product key that came with my PC.

Are you sure Windude99 is correct?

I thought those Digital River downloads DID work on OEM PCs, but I've never had to use them.

I tried with my own PC. I downloaded the appropriate iso for my pc and windows didn't like my product key. When I tried to reinstall with my OEM disc from Amazon, it activated with no problem.

    Hmmm.... I can't explain that.

But I am pretty sure others have had success with the Digital River downloads. I don't think they are restricted to retail.

Mabe I'm wrong?? I would hope that the Digital River downloads would work, but OEM discs are designed for OEM keys and retail discs(like the iso from digital river) work with retail keys.
