how much hard drive memory does a Windows 7 64-bit pro take up?

Hello Jimlau,

Minimum requirements for 64-bit Windows 7 is 20 GB + whatever you plan on installing or saving to it.

thanks. i was thinking of getting a 60GB SSD. seems like it will be big enough. do u know if performance suffers if the drive is, say, 90% full, like it does with regular SATA HD's?

I wouldn't think drive type would matter, if its almost full performance will suffer. For what its worth I have 57.7 GB used on my OS partition. Thats Windows, Office, some programs and a couple of games. Thats not counting My Documents, Pictures, Music etc that is on my Data partition. A 60 gig drive might not be enough depending on what kind of software you plan on using. I know it wouldn't be big enough for my setup.

I was able to get my OS and all software installed on my 64gig SSD. Look here Will a 64gb SSD be big enough for...

EDIT: BTW, I have 24.5 gigs free still at this point.

60GB will be fine, especially if you offload your videos, music, photos, downloads, and documents folders to a second drive. I have a 60gb drive and it only has about 24 gb used.
