After your reinstall did you install the motherboard drivers and other hardware drivers specific to your PC?

That plus a lot of other updates. Especially before spending time surfing the net.

I ran all the updates....the only issue with the updates is i cant get through the sp1 update without crashing...as for the drivers the only thing in the pc is a hard drive, dvd drive, and the motherboard.. i wouldn't have to go and get the drivers for those would i? if i do where do i go? from what i can tell all are working fine.

I also ran memtest and the machine passed that as well.

    i appreciate your guys help

If you just recently did this restore it may not be too painful to start all over. Not knowing all that's occured since the original restore: I would save whatever's on there that you need to keep to some external media, gather everything you need to have ready for a restore, and start off totally clean by wiping that hard drive as the first step. I would not start using the machine for the usual purposes until all security software is in place and OS/software is updated.

The trouble with installing SP1 could've been a clue something was wrong. Not really sure about that as I know service packs do seem troublesome for some users. I just make sure the machine is doing nothing else when installing service packs. Also make sure the machine is in a state to be able to install it properly (previous updates are usually required to already be installed) -- don't try to force the install before Windows Update offers it.

From the problems you are describing, all are not working fine. IRQ issues are almost always hardware driver related. You definitely need to install the drivers for the motherboard, and the place to get those is here for Windows 7 32-bit or here for Windows 7 64-bit.

Get your system hardware drivers up to spec before you try SP1 again.

Download and install all pertinent drivers.

Try to boot your system into Safe mode:

Restart your computer if it is powered on.
Press and hold F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer initially powers on.
Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu (or hear a beep) you can stop.
Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
Select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
You should see drivers loading, this may take a few moments.
You should then be at the Welcome Screen.
Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges. Now you should download (free) MalwareBytes install, update then do a scan of your system in safe mode, to make sure it is indeed clean! Once the scan is done delete anything it finds. Then simply reboot your PC to see if your issue has been resolved!

If your system is clean, then run this system file checker scan in safe mode below:

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    2. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    3. In the Command Prompt window type the following, sfc /scannow (yes there is a space after sfc) then press enter. This scan may take a while to complete.

Hope this helps you. Let us know either way. Make it a great day!
