I have a question about my laptop

I have an HP Pavilion g7 laptop. I charged it for 5 hours and when I turned it on today it said 2 hours 100%. The battery life is suppose to be 5 and a half hours. When I finished charging it last night the light never turned green, it stayed blue. Please tell me what's going on, and how long should I charge, and when.

The battery may be close to end of life
In the future, every now and then let the battery die and then give a full charge. It may be too late for your current battery but use that method for your new one.

I don't understand that the battery maybe close to the end of life. I just got this laptop on March 22nd. Sorry, it is my first time with a laptop what would be now and then? Every other day, once a week? What would be a full charge maybe 5 hours? When fully charged is the light suppose to be blue or green?

Not actually being there, I can only take educated guesses. All I know is that those are symptoms of a dying battery. I do know that all new batteries should be charge, without interruption for 6-10 hours before use. You may want to consult your computer manual for the proper way to maintain the battery. This may be of help, also.

You can return it to retailer normally within 30 days.

You have one year full Tech Support, replacement and parts warranty with HP. Call them to see if you are missing something or perhaps the battery needs RMA. You want to get all of these things sorted within the first year if you don't choose to take it back to retailer within their allowed time.

You should know the color of the light by now just from using it. If not, that should be clearly detailed in your manual.

Putting aside LED colors, when you had it charged, did you trying running off the battery? If so, what did Windows list for remaining time? Keep in mind that you will never see the advertised battery time.

And by the way, even though some batteries are advertised to last a certain amount of time, they often don't last nearly that long. I have an HP dv5t with a 12 cell battery that was advertised to last super-long -- and certainly longer than the comparable 6 cell battery for that model laptop. Well, the 12 cell battery doesn't last long and never has. When the battery was new, the most I could ever get was 3 to 3 1/2 hours. As it aged, it went progressively down to zero. I then replaced it with a generic (non-HP) clone and had pretty much the same results. Very frustrating!

I will let all of you know what the HP Staff says. I have charged my laptop today earlier this morning at 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. this afternoon for 6 hours, |> (I made a mistake I meant I charged my laptop for 7 hours.) and the better this evening at 7 p.m. was at 6 hours which is really good and I'm very happy about that.
