Is Product ID unique as well?

Yes, the product key is unique, but how is the ID created? Is that a pre-determined id for that particular version of Win7 or is if unique to the key?

Why do you want to know? Because...no its not unique. OEMs can have the same key and product id.

In the event you need to contact Microsoft with an activation query they may well ask you for the product ID.

If you have a retail product key, the product ID will be in this format: xxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx

If you have an OEM product key, the product ID will be in this format: xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx

^ +1 for the clear explanation on the significance of the Product ID.

I am a little curious now. I have a Dell Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Will all Dell laptops with the above OS-same bit have the same Product ID?

No, each operating system has it's own Product ID.

It essentially tells Microsoft whether or not you have a retail version of Windows - for which they can offer support.

They are unlikely to offer support for an OEM version - support here should come from the system builder.

If the two Dell computers have the same OS, the same OEM key, same OEM certificate the product ID will be the same. I have had my hands on hundreds of exact Dell laptops at work, each one had the same product ID.

I think those Dells are flashed with a Volume License Key.

No, they all use the same Dell OEM key and certificate. You could call it a Volume License Key if you like, but they are not. Almost all major OEMs have these keys. Unlike VLK these OEM keys are validated locally via the hardware System Locked Pre-installation (SPL). That means only Dells keys can activate on Dell hardward.
