Freeze on startup

Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice please.

The daughters Laptop freezes a couple of minute after login, eset shows an error pop up then it freezes.
Boots OK in safe mode & i have tried scanning with the eset free scanner which also freezes during safe mode. Is there another on demand scanner i could try.

I understand basic windows programs & drivers only run in safe mode but how do i initiate additional processes to use process of elimination?

Would that be the correct course of action?

I created a repair disc when i purchased the laptop a year ago but i don't think i did the image disc, (Well i can't find it anyway) (Well done me)).

(Windows 7 home premium 64 bit)

Thanks in advance.

Darren

Just ran eset online scanner again & froze at the same file, C:\Windows\Installer\12c30.msi

The best thing to do is reinstall windows. If You don't have a windows 7 disc call the manufacture of the Laptop. You might need to pay for it but that would be better then buying a upgrade/Full version of windows when you already have a product key.

As you have a legitimate Windows product key you can download a Windows 7 ISO and use that to carry out a clean install.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Just make sure you've download the computer manufacturer's network drivers first so that you have a way of getting online for any other drivers you may need.

You're very welcome.

As an aside, I notice you have a system repair disc.

I forgot to mention that you could try a startup repair, as explained in this tutorial.

Startup Repair

You may need to run it three times with a reboot between each occurrence, but if it fixes your problem it would be preferable to a clean install I would imagine.

Thanks for that but i had already tried it, i ended up doing a clean install, my first time so a nail biter

I copied the realtek wireless adapter driver to a flash drive as instructed in the tutorial, & i think that's what was key in making it quite painless as once Windows was reinstalled, & i had an internet connection windows update kicked in & did it's stuff.

The laptop runs like lightning again & a reinstall of eset from the web has given me the latest version too so i think all has worked out for the best.

So thank you once again for sharing your knowledge & pointing me in the right direction, i am extremely grateful.
