Delete folder that cannot be found

I recently restored my computer and while trying to delete the windows.old folder it creates in the C: drive I made the unfortunate mistake of hitting cancel. While the contents if the folder are no longer inside, the folder itself won't delete and gives me this message "Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:\. Verify the item's location and try again. I've tried making another and renaming it the same, but it doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to delete it?
