    Windows7 program fonts

    Hello,

I'm really green when it comes to managing my fonts and have let it get out of control (at least in my mind). I have over 700 fonts installed and I want to organize them into groups or folders and cleanup my Windows7 program fonts in the Windows>Fonts folder leaving just the 236 Windows7 program fonts; I think that is the correct number?

But what about the Microsoft Office 2007 fonts - can someone tell me where they are located? It appears from the list I have of these fonts that a lot of them are the same as the Windows7 program fonts?

I have more questions that I will ask later.

    Thank you for any assistance.

As far as I know, Office installs all there fonts into the universal font folder so they can be accessed by other programs.

To organise them, select them all and copy them into a second folder (on the desktop for example) just as a backup. Then just go through and delete the ones you don't want! You could right click on it and say hide also. This will not uninstall the font, just hide it from other programs. This will make the font list easier to navigate without completly removing the font.

This program list shows lots of different programs designed to help make organising fonts easier: 25 Font Management Tools Reviewed | Smashing Magazine. Some of the programs are paid for, some are free.

    Hope this helps

Thank you Stephen, this does help.

Question: The universal font folder you refer to is that the Windows>Font folder?

If so, then the Windows7 fonts and the MS Office fonts are mixed together?

If that is the case would any Adobe fonts also go into that 'universal' font folder?

You see that I have a lot to learn. I have just bought MainType4 software (a database system) and trying to organize my fonts.

Yes, the universal font folder I mentioned is the Windows>Font folder. All fonts that are installed go into that folder
