"All Programs" listings empty after virus

Spent today cleaning up fake AV-scan virus which hid all files. ComboFix has restored all of the files.

Programs also all appear to be working, although all of the "All Programs" listings are empty. I can find and run them from Start search.

Does anyone know of a way to repopulate the All Programs list without having to Repair/Reinstall the Programs, since they all work fine?

    Hello Greg,

The tutorial below can help you restore all of the default shortcuts in "All Programs", but you'll still have to manually recreate new shortcuts for your installed programs though.

    Thanks Shawn -

I copied the important All Programs links back into their empty folders, deleted the others, then copied Accessories and Windows Update back in.

We'll see how that tides him over, since everything seems to work otherwise - but you never know with an infection like this. Seems he can get to anything else using Start Search.

Sorry I deleted my prior post but I was muddled thinking I'd posted it in one of your tutorials.

    LOL, no problem Greg.

    Hopefully it'll be fine. :)
