Windows 7 stuck on "Welcome" screen - system restore fixes temporarily

As in title. I have an issue where the PC boots up fine, then after I log on the PC hangs up on the loading screen. I system restored from safe mode, and the issue was fixed. Two days later, the issue recurred. Again system restore fixed the problem. Any ideas how to fix it permanently? I did not install anything except the BF3 patch between the two system restores.

    Cheers, Notso

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

    You should be OK here.

Try a Startup Repair, as described in this tutorial: Startup Repair

You may want to run a system file check: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Or a Repair Install: Repair Install

As the problem doesn't occur in safe mode you can also check in Event Viewer for anything untoward as you may have a driver problem.

    Looks a known issue .

If you don't have the Windows 7 SP1 (you don't mention it) installed then this article can help you:

Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2 may stop responding at the Welcome screen after you enter the user credentials to log on to the computer
