Sleep function disabled.. how do you enable?

    Here's the skinny:

I downloaded the RC over the summer to try it out, alongside linux mint. I like it so much that I've decided to abandon the linux distro for now and let Windows 7 take over my whole hard drive. The one thing remaining before falling in love is the lack of standby mode. The sleep function is grayed out in the start menu, so I can't even put it to sleep. This is annoying because I'm using a laptop at school, which I would like to put on standby (instead of hibernating) between classes. This is a 100% fresh install. It was the first thing I tried once the install finished, because I had trouble with the previous Win7 install. I can't figure it out.... Maybe a bios update?? Please Help!!

    I have a HP tc4200.

From what I understand, might be similar to this issue in vista, and the solution there might work: Re-Enable Sleep Mode in Windows Vista :: the How-To Geek

You can't blame a guy for wanting to get any help he can, right?

I've got a HP tc4200 tablet. It has a Pentium M 2.0 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM. I don't know what other information you want of the computer? It came with 512 RAM installed and I added the 1gb. I guess there's a possibility the original memory is 533Hz while the memory I installed was 667Hz. I remember seeing something recommending not installing two different speeds of RAM, but I didn't spend the time to check out what I had previously installed.

I have build 7100 of Win7, all legit. I downloaded it earlier in the summer from the Microsoft page.

Also, in response to hdfrango, I already came across that issue in my searching, and it's not the issue I am having. Thanks for the idea though!

The grayed out standby is often an indication, that there is no graphics driver installed.

In your specs nor posts, I see a mentioning of the graphics card.

You need to get the appropriate drivers for it and it will almost certainly make standby available.

    good luck
