Windows Drive(C:) shows Low disk space error while its not actually

Hello everyone,

From last few days I am suffering from Low Disk Space error for my C drive where windows is installed. I tried disk clean up...its works for few mins and again my disk gets full.

My total Hard drive space is 640 GB(I am using Lenovo Z570 laptop) where C drive is with 97.5 GB...I know its there is no more than 16-17 gb data in my C drive but still it shows this error and I am unable to download data, stream videos and so on.

I've attached screenshot of what error I am getting...what is my disk space(97.5 GB) and what is total size occupied(16.3 GB) by my data in C drive(I select all folders in C drive and calculate total size actually occupied).

Error

Disk Size Status

Actual Size

Can anyone help me regarding this? How can I fix this issue.

Thanks in advance

Do you have any hidden files/folders?

@seavixen32 Sorry but how to check that? I've no idea how to check "How much disk space is allocated to shadow storage and system restore"...

Press the Win+Pause key combo to open the System window then click System Protection.

You can also run Disk Cleanup, as explained here: Disk Cleanup - Open and Use

I am not sure if we are on the same page. See the screen shot and be sure you have "Show hidden file, folders and drives" selected.

Windows 7's default for shadow storage is 10% of the drive space, but if you're not too concerned with how many restore points you need you could easily drop the setting to 5%.

If you intend creating regular system image backups you could in fact dispense with system restore altogether and regain all the drive space it's currently taking up.

The choice is entirely up to you, just remember that if you are using system restore, the oldest restore point gets deleted when all the allocated space is used up.

Hidden files and folders are already viewable as you can see my screenshot...where I've selected all folders in my C drive you can see some hidden folders are also selected.

Thanks
