Is Win8 really better than 7?

After reading a lot of the discussion about Windows 8, if someone asked me a simple question like, “Why is Windows 8 better than Windows 7?” I couldn’t come up with an answer. Does anyone else have an answer to that question???

The MAIN reason it's "Better" is because it will be a real tablet OS.

Well better for windows tablets than 7 that is.

On the desktop it's an incremental improvement in most areas though no real MUST HAVE features /assuming/ that they have a normal start menu for power desktop users. If they don't, a lot of people might argue that it's actually "worse" than Windows 7 for them (Myself included).

The Windows 8 desktop may actually appeal to non power users by and large. Making Windows 8 easier to use for non technical people. So for cases like that (I.e. your grandparents etc) then it may be a useful improvement over 7.

So it all depends on what you want to get out of the OS as to weather 8 is better or worse than 7. (Also depends on a couple of drastic possible decisions before release by MS themselves)

To me it's not worth the cost and effort.
My primary is an HTPC, so touch screen isn't practical viewing from 8-10 ft. away.
If it had "kinect" ability so someone could point a finger and control a TV/PC, that would be cool...
No mouse, no keyboard, no touch screen, easy to use, reliable, ... I'm interested :)
That would be a FUN TOY

Guess i should consider setting something up for support purposes for others buying a new PC...

I am a Windows 7 man so I would not have run Win8 for the past five weeks if it didn't feel a bit faster. I also like improvements in Explorer copy function and the way installing printers and Updates is now done in the background without user input unless needed.

The drawback is the Metro GUI which is a Start screen that actually starts with Windows and is given a button-like GUI. It takes some adjusting to using the Windows Key to get to it instead of the Start button, but once you get past that then it's just a quick pitstop when you start up - hopefully one which will be gone in the finished product for those who don't have touch screens.

mm I wouldn't say better, In my opinon it feels like a broken windows 7 with a metro slapped on ....... Nothing really new expect a couple features and the metro not enough to make me want to go buy it il'l just wait when Microsoft makes another os and hopefully better then win 8. No need to upgrade anyway, win 7 will get support until 2020.

For Home users Windows 7 is better.. Windows 7 gives you everything, includes all features you love and the business features your work demands – plus added security features and the flexibility to work in multiple languages.
Help protect your data on your PC and portable storage devices against loss or theft with BitLocker, Work in the language of your choice or switch between any of 35 languages..

I've tried Windows 8 on my desktop and it didn't really do anything for me.

However, as tablets and netbooks have a similar screen size these days then I can see the sense in Windows 8's GUI for them and people new to computing will probably love it.

As for me, I'll keep my Luddite spectacles on and stick with Windows 7, which I happen to think is the best OS produced by Microsoft.

I am having trouble understanding why Microsoft would shoot themselves in the foot
and put out such a piece of junk.
    Businesses will NEVER use it.
Ok, so if Microsoft wants to humor the kids with their toy phones that is OK.
BUT make two windows 8 packages. One for the kids and one for business.
Is that so hard to do ?????
Thank god for Windows 7. Otherwise the Linux mess.
