Need help with file name extensions in Windows Explorer

I am running Windows 7 Professional and need help with file extensions names.
I hope I can explain this so you can understand!

I need my files in my folders to end with an extension such as:
cat.jpg
dog.psp
lesson1.cab

All it shows now is:
cat
dog
lesson1

If I click on "type" it does show what extension they are, but I need it to say the extension in the "Name".

I sure hope this makes sense! Thank you for any help or suggestions!

Hi siamoose,Welcome to the forums, Go to control panel>appearance and personalisation>folder options >show hidden files and folders then uncheck Hide extentions for known file types , You may also have to check "show hidden files ,folders and drives " , you will get a warning message telling you it can be harmful to show these files but if you are sure and know what you are doing , then it is safe to carry on

Thank you so much for helping me with this! You guys are the best, your suggestions did the trick for me.

Why oh why does Windows 7 make it so difficult

Microsoft made hidden file extensions the default since at least XP so this isn't a Win 7 issue.

Then I must have done it on my old XP and forgot! Either way, I am a happy camper! This board is a wealth of information!
