How do I change the transparent screen look?

Hello,

I am thrilled to find this place as I just completed a transition from an 8 year old box running XP to a new box running win7 pro, and it has been an interesting process to say the least. That old XP box ran 24/7 for 8 years and was only turned off when we would go on vacation a couple of times per year. I recall it crashing only two times in those 8 years, I hope I get the same reliability with 7.

I would like to change the default transparent look of the screens if possible. If I want to see what is behind the current window I'll minimize it, but I'd rather not have that transparent look.

That's Aero. To turn it off, right-click the desktop, select Personalize, and then select among the Basic and High Contrast Themes.

There's also an "enable transparency" checkbox that you can uncheck if you like the other Aero features. Click on the "Window color" button on the bottom of the Personalization page to find it.

Are you talking about how the windows become transparent when you put the cursor all the way to the lower right corner of the screen? If so, that's called Aero Peek and there's a tutorial on how to disable it.

While you're there, take a look around and read some of the other tutorials - they are very well written and can definitely give you pointers on how to get around in Windows 7.
