Windows 7: Minimis just closes any window

Minimis just closes any window

When I click the minimise button on any type of window, instead of minimising to the task bar the window closes. It doesn't close like normal but ultra quick - it just vanishes and task manager shows no sign of it. Nothing to see in event manager.

Edit: Just found that the window minimises to the notification area in the task bar not the left-hand side! I remember seeing something about this somewhere on my system so maybe I've messed with a setting?

Run System Restore. If no change.
System Restore

Try sfc /scannow.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Does this apply to every window or application? The minimize to system tray function would actually need a 3rd-party application, which is unlikely installed in your system.

I'm running Win 7 64
I agree it is probably something I've done but darned if I can think what! Scannow ran fine. I can't restore as this is a restored image I'm running now.

If you find this happens in an explore window, got to the explore icon and select it.
you should see a thumbnail of any open windows to select if things are working as they should.
Have you got aero enabled and desktop compostion ? you can find these settings by right clicking Computer on the desktop and select properties at the bottom of the context menu, now find and click the advanced system settings link about 4 down from the top left.
Now you have system properties sheet, choice of 3 buttons click on performance-settings. I think you will see where the things I mentioned are.

This may be unreleted of course, but it's something to check.

Sorted

OK I disabled Windows Blinds and all is OK now. I'll check if there is an update or report of similar on their website. Thanks all.

Windows Blind actually has a feature which enables you to minimize programs to tray.
As to what I've said, a 3rd party software would only be the cause of this, and there does exist one, Windows Blind. You've probably accidentally changed some settings with Windows Blind. You have probably solved the problem by disabling/uninstalling Windows Blind. If you'd like to still use Windows Blind but do not want the Minimize to System Tray feature. Go to "Window Blinds Configuration" > Settings > User Overrides > Advanced Settings. There you'll find:

"Make minimize button minimize to the tray"
Disable this.

I'd recommended knowing what you change with any software, so that it would be easy to trace a cause of a problem, whether it's from a misconfiguration or a bug.

I did say I sort of remembered seeing this option somewhere, so thank you for the slap on the wrist.
