Why will one icon shortcut not pin to taskbar?

I just replaced an XP pro workstation, with a new Win 7 Pro Dell Optiplex 790, on our 4 computer chiropractic office XP pro wired local area network. The server is an XP Pro machine where all the Billing & EMR software programs reside. All of the new workstations shortcut icons that point to the programs on the Server will pin to the taskbar on the new Win 7 workstation except for one.

The Google machine has not helped me find the answer.

Anyone with any ideas would be appreciated?

We need more info on that shortcut.

You can try to pin it via "target explorer" technique described here for a folder (Option ONE). Instead a folder that can be a program too.

    Good Work Around

The target folder will not give me a shortcut to my desktop because it is on a network drive on the Server. But your suggestion gave me a great work around.

I used a folder on the new workstation and pinned it to the taskbar then dropped a copy of the shortcut icon into the folder. It means I have to click the new folder icon pinned to the taskbar first and then click the shortcut icon when the folder opens but it is much better than having to close everything to get back to the desktop to find the shortcut icon.

    Thanks much appreciated.

is it possible to drag the shortcut to your favourites panel in explorer, that way its always at hand (in an open window)without the need for a folder on the taskbar

    Yes it works

Yes that worked, but I spend most of my day in my EMR software writing patient notes. The taskbar is the only thing always available.

    Thanks again,
