F1 at boot, CMOS batt replaced.Windows warning BU data, HDD failing

2nd time formatting C: this week for a clean 7 install to resolve this ...
Keep getting F1 prompt at boot. What little I've found is that my CMOS batt could be going dead? Reflashed BIOS to update and replaced CMOS Batt. Still get F1 prompt to boot.

Meanwhile Windows keeps prompting me to B/U all my data cause I keep getting "HDD is failing message, back up data soon". Did Scandisk and 2 other 3rd party prog's to check HDD out and NO ERRORS found. Virus, malware,Spybot and 2 defrags with all 0's didn't detect or correct anything. 7 yr old PC ,so kinda time for the HDD to go tit's up on me?
POINT BEING ...
Is it possible to have a dual boot of 7, one on Cuntil it fails?) and another 7 OS on a blank partition of the external USB HDD as an alternate option . Is this possible? Will the laptop run off of an External USB HDD loaded W/7 if my C: does fail? If it will how do I do it?

I don't have a DVD burner, just reader. Will I need 3rd party dual boot software to choose c: or USB HDD boot option? How can I make that USB partition bootable?

Pesently I can only install from the DVD drive to a partition on C:
Am guessing I need to make one of my USB partitoins bootable in order for Windows install to give me another option other than C: on install?

Using my original home premium DVD disk only gives me the choice of installing on C: ..... Can I install to another partition on the USB? (I guess making it bootable?) To avoid installing from to C: is the only option I have right now.

CONFUSING MYSELF!
ANY help would be appreciated.
I tried researching some of these issues on this site but eyesight not that good and have trouble reading sometimes.
THANKS AGAIN
