    Taskbar issue

When i 1st got 7, as i recall i had to use some sort of tweak i think i got asking here so that apps would display the same way on the taskbar as they do in XP and previous windows. The problem is sometimes they actually cover up things that are pinned to the bar so i can't access them unless i close all windows. Any way around this? Thanks.

These are the directions I follow to setup the TaskBar so it has a Quick Launch area on the left and running program icons adjacent to it on the right. System tray is still to the far right.
Here are the complete instructions for configuring the QL Toolbar in Windows 7.

Right click the Taskbar and select Toolbars/New Toolbar.

In the Choose A Folder window, navigate to:

    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

(Where 'username' is the name of the account you are logged on with)

    Click the Select Folder button.

This will add the Quick Launch Toolbar to the right side of the Taskbar.

Right click the Taskbar and make sure that it is Unlocked.

On the Left Side of the Quick Launch Toolbar you will see 3 vertical rows of Dots. This is the Windows 7 Toolbar Handle. Use the mouse to grab that handle and drag it as far to the left as it will go.

If that doesn't switch the toolbars, grab the Handle for the Taskbar Icons and drag it as far to the right as it will go.

Next, drag the QL toolbar to the left as far as it will go. This should place it next to the Start Button. Right click an empty spot on the QL toolbar and remove the check marks from 'Show Text' and 'Show Title'.

Finally, carefully drag the Taskbar Icons to the left until the QL toolbar is the size you prefer.

Right click the Taskbar and select 'Lock the Taskbar'.

Above posted by Ronnie Vernon, MS MVP here: Please restore the Quick Launch (post #4)

Now you can add program icons to the Quick Launch bar exactly as you did in XP and Vista.
My Taskbar (left side) looks like this:
