WD Passport Not Recognized (Part 2)

Need to Recover Data from WD Passport External HD

    Capture.PNG (154.8 KB)

This is a continuation of above thread. WD Passport cannot be accessed.

Drive now shows under disk mangement with note it needs to be initialized. When I click on disk 2, a get an incorrect function error after clicking, thus I can't bring the disk online. Note the red mark on disk 2.

    Thoughts ? Thanks !

You say you clicked on the drive.

    Left click or right click?

You need to right-click the drive before you can initialize (create a volume) on it.

Initialize is grayed out. I also can't bring disk 2 online. When I click, I get an "incorrect function" error.

Unless anyone else has any other ideas I'd say the drive is screwed.

Try checking the drive with this:

WD Support / Downloads / Legacy External / WD Passport

It will allow checking their USB externals similar to the way a SATA/PATA directly connected can be diagnosed.

Test stated "Error was detected while repairing bad sectors, contact WD tech support"

Thanks - I will give tech support a call later tonight/tomorrow.

WD Tech Support stated the above diagonstic tool linked by sibbil was the only way to repair. They recommended data recovery as only option.

    Thanks All !
