I was thinking about that...i would consider a 256 gb SSD,a clean install of W7,as i don't really need 750 gb HDD...i could use it for my current laptop witch my girlfriend would take...and for all the programs that i need keepind a 50gb-60gb partition for OS and the rest for general use!
Thank you for the advice!

The i5 is good. I have one of those and it is really fast. But I put a SSD in.

I would not wait for the Ivy bridge. They will most likely be more expensive. And regarding RAM, 6GB is ample. An extra 2GB will probably buy you nothing. I see no difference in performance when I compare my 6GB system with my 8GB system.

If with Ivy bridge would be smth like 100 more...i would pay the money,as i am planing to keep the laptop for a few years, just like the one that i have it now...at least 3-4 years....and with a 256 ssd from intel aswell...that should do the trick for the time...

Well, if you have some flexibility in your budget, then your plan is valid. I am just not a fan of jumping on a brand new technology. Remember the disaster with Sandy Bridge at the beginning - which was really a board problem.

Thats disaster keeps me holding back...that's why i am trying to get as many oppinions as i can!
I think today intel is planing to release the Ivy bridge(i am not sure!!!!) so in a perfect world,if anything goes wrong with the new gen,in 2-3 months should be fixed...is in it?
The major problem would be,as i said before, i could wait a bit more if i have to,just to make sure i get something that will last me at least 4-5 years...i am not a pc fanatic, but i do use it a lot for speaking with my familly, from time to time to improve my photos and some movies...and as well i wouldn't mind to play from time to time a game...as an example i do like racing games(i am not somekind of pro at it) like NFS the run!
PS: thank you for you advice!

Did you consider a desktop or do you need the portability of a laptop.

I use my laptop very rarely. I like my 22" screen on the desktop and you get a lot more muscle in a desktop. For video work (which I do a lot) that is a better choice, but for the rest it does not matter.

Ohhh trust me i would buy a dekstop any time rather than the laptop, but i do need the portability!
As i am working and studing in UK but i am Romanian...so i am caught in the middle! I go home every 4-5 months,do a lot of traveling around UK as well...
I honeslty get a desktop...even if i have to spend 1000 on it...i know it's a better option and i can upgrade it when i want, how i want...but if i have to go home for good...imagine how hard will it be to take it with me...
That's why i am asking advices about this laptop...
But thank you for the suggestion!
