Windows 7: Open each folder in SAME window broken ?

Hi - I prefer to stay in the same window when seeking files otherwise I end up with 300 open folders.

Control Panel > Folder Options > Open Each Folder In The Same Window - Doesn't work....

Any ideas?? Thanks!!

Although I've not seen this problem with 7, I remember it with XP. It sometime took a clean logoff and shutdown, then restart. And you might even have to do it one more time.

Set the options the way you want. Properly close all programs, and then logoff. When logoff is complete shut down. See what you've got after restart.

Hi does anyone know what it is that I am might be doing wrong? Every time I try to see a file I end up with far too many folders open - especially if the file is buried deep....

All I want is ONE folder or rather window explorer folder open....

Any ideas? I have tried resetting to defaults - perhaps there is a setting elsewhere? THANKS

Was it ever set to "open new" each time?

Try setting it that way, click ok, then go back in and set it to "open in same"...

its still opening up each folder - it gets annoying when I just want to open one file buried within 20 folders....

I cross compared with another machine (windows 7) that does not do this and 100% copied over the settings.

No joy.....

Any ideas what is going on here?

Have you tried this? : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker Do and restart upon finding violations.
