This file does not have a program associated with it for performing ..

Hi folks,

I have been using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - SSIS in BIDS 2005 in my Win 7 Home Premium OS for the last couple of years. For the last few days I have not been able to open the SSIS packages. It looks like most of the .dll files are corrupted. When even I try to run a .dll file among the installation files, I get the message -

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.

Can anyone throw some insights on how to go about this problem ? In the SSIS package execution, I get the error -

Microsoft Visual studio is unable to load this document. Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Please let me know.

Thanks
S

Welcome to Seven Forums.

I think the dll files are dynamic link library files and they are not associated with any particular program. Look in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations. It shall show dlls' current default as Unknown Application, that is quite normal.

As far as I know dlls are called for by various programs during their execution. Read briefly about the role of dlls at http://filext.com/file-extension/DLL.

Hello S, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In addition, if you like, you could download and merge the dll option in the tutorial below to restore it's default associations automatically.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Hope this helps,
Shawn
