Windows 7: Favorites shortcuts in navigation pane not opening correctly.

It use to open in the right pane (in the same window) but now suddenly it opens a new window. Other folders open fine in the same window and I checked in the folders options to make sure "open in same window" is checked. Also when I try to click on the favorites shortcuts in the "open" or "save as" dialog it doesn't open. Help!
