My pictures - 8gb of files but not showing. windows 7

    Hello everyone,

Just to start by saying that your help is greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine passed me her sony vaio laptop which had a virus on. I have managed to remove the virus, malware, MSE scan in safe mode etc etc but at the time of taking the laptop she reported that all her pictures where not accessible.

    1. when i select my pictures there is no viewable pictures.
    2. when i right click and select properties it shows 8.17gb size.

i have selected security beleiving that it may be a permissons issue but to no avail.

    1. checked owner in advanced security settings and even edited, selecting replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
    2. edited changed permissons making sure all data matched for username.

    still no viewing of pictures.

any thoughts on how to go about being able to view pictures.

Please note.. issue also with my music and my documents. Not sure if its the virus that has caused the issue? but now removed i would have thought this would have been resolved.

    thanks
    a very confused andrew

Are there any restore points to a date prior to the virus?

Was this a virus that hides files until you buy it's phony A/V scan?

Here is how it was solved for me: Fake AV infection - files hidden?

I would go through the disinfection regimen in addition to using the Unhide program.

Was this an image restore? If the pictures were on the disk that was restored then the pictures will have been overwritten. You may be able to get some of them back with Recuva. The link is in my signature.

If the files are still there in the My Pictures folder but you can not view them, try resetting the Hidden Attribute for all the files in this folder.

You can also go to folder options and click on the radio button for "Show Hidden files, folders and drives" setting.

If you can see the file names but could not access the files, then you may have to change the permissions for all the files in this folder.

Try copying the files to an external drive (flash, HDD) and check them in another laptop.
