How Increase Desktop Icon File Name or Filename Length?
How can one adjust the file name length of desktop icons?
I have found the default setting on a new Windows 7 installation to be much too short.

Do you mean the actual file name or are you talking about the horizontal icon spacing, which if made bigger enables you to place a longer file name on one line?
If it is the latter, just right-click the desktop and choose Personalize>Windows Color>Advanced Appearance Settings.
From the Item: drop-down list choose Icon Spacing (Horizontal) and choose a size.
Click OK>Apply.
Hi SV,
I meant horizontal spacing, as you surmised. Thanks.
You're very welcome.
Were you able to adjust it to accommodate your longer icon labels?
Yes, I was able to adjust it. I found the adjustment right where you said it would be. Thx.
Also you might be interested in adjusting the size of the icons ... hold down CTRL and spin the mouse wheel.
