Windows 7 Index Search

Why does Windows 7 automatically reindex my index search file when I reboot the computer.

I have 300,000 files on my computer and it takes two days to rebuild the index. I leave my computer on all the time because I am afraid that by turning it off and on again will cause the indexing function to restart the index.

How can I stop this reindexing function from starting on its own.

Uncheck indexing in the Properties of the drive.

Then use a good search program instead of Windows Search.

Hi, welcome to sevenforums.
Indexing can take a little time, however 2 things to note.
Indexing should not run at boot time and shouldn't be rebuilding the index unless you specifically tell the program to.
Indexing on 300, 000 files should not take anything like the time you suggest.

I don't know why you suspect indexing as the primary cause of this problem. Have you done malware and rootkit scans recently ?

I personally uninstalled Windows search indexing from Contorl Panel / Programs and Features / Turn Windows features on or off and then started using FileSearchEX.
