    XP32 > Win7x64 Migrate Settings Data: Chrome+Extn, Outlook+iTunes+App?

How do I migrate these SETTINGS DATA etc so that on the new OS after Application Installation and APP SETTINGS / DATA migration its exactly as before.

Especially the following Applications & their Data:

How: Transfer iTunes + Outlook (Calendar/ Contacts) from WinXP to Win7 64 new PC?

I have read individual migration / transfer guides for iTunes as well for Outlook.

One of the the methods for iTunes is seems pretty simple as we gotta just copy the ENTIRE library folder over as defined here.

But this Synch on my Win XP 32 machine:
    iPhone 4 (4.2.1 - JB: Apps, Contacts, Calendar) <> [ iTunes (Apps) <> Outlook (Contacts + Calendar) ]

The Synch needs to be moved to the new Win 7 x64 machine.. AS IT IS without any information loss (The information chain marked in BOLD)

Does this method also migrate all the iTunes SETTINGS on what parts of Outlook to sync with?

I'd like for the sync to be seamless. Any thoughts on what I should do for that in terms of Outlook + iTunes?

    Hi,

for iTunes, the best way to do migrate itunes is to go to Music then iTunes. Select that folder and copy it to an external drive.
However, to make sure everything is in the folder, open iTunes then:

    1. Sync your iphone/ipad/ipod then:
    2. Go to edit then preferences
    3. Then advanced
    4. Then check keep itunes folder organised and Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to libary
    5. OK
    6. Then go to File, Library and organise library
    7. Check consolidate files and OK
    8. Wait and then everything in your itunes library will be in that folder

Copy the folder to an external drive. Then on the new windows 7 install, install itunes. Then replace the itunes folder in Music with the one you created earlier. Hey Presto! Done!

Not sure about Google Chrome and office right now but might come up with an idea later.

A tool you could use is this: Download: Windows Easy Transfer for Windows XP - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details. Tutorial here: Transfer Files and Settings from XP to Windows 7

    Hope this helps

As long as the iTunes folder is consolidated, all apps should be in there. To check, go to the iTunes folder. The apps will be in one of two places. Either iTunes then mobile applications or iTunes then iTunes music then mobile applications. The apps should be in there.

As I'm typing this on my own iPod at the moment, I'm not sure of the exact steps for outlook. When I get a chance after school, I'll post some instructions on sorting outlook out.

    Right then, down to business.

I'm assuming you're using Outlook 2010. If not, the instructions should work but all the commands will be in the same place. I use outlook 2010 but have never used any older versions so can't really help with the older versions.

As all the contact and calenders on itunes are synced with outlook, if you import everything back into outlook, it will be OK.

       Note
If you use an online email service, like Gmail or Hotmail some calender and contacts may be synced with the service. Log on to it online and check to save hassle

    To export contacts:

    1. File -> Open ->Import
    2. Export to a file -> Next -> Comma Separated Values (Windows) (You could use Outlook Data File (.pst) instead)
    3. Locate the contacts folder
    4. Next
    5. Choose a save destination (i.e External HDD)
    6. Finish

Once it is complete (it can take a while with lots of contacts) you can check it worked properly. Open the saved file. It should open in Excel or other spreadsheet program. There you can see all of the contacts and the details

    To reimport them again:

    1. File -> Open -> Import
    2. Import from another file or program -> Next
    3. Comma Separated Values (Windows) (Or Outlook Data File (.pst) if you selected that earlier)
    4. Locate the file you saved earlier and click next
    5. Select the destination folder
    6. Finish

    To export/import calender

Follow the previous steps but choose calender instead.

Once on the new computer with all data reimported:

    1. Open iTunes
    2. Make sure under settings -> Devices, Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically is checked
    3. Connect your iPhone
    4. Go to the info tab
    5. Check sync contact and calender info from outlook
    6. Also check the contacts and calender options under Replace information on this iPhone. It's right at the end by the way
    7. Sync

I really hope this clarifies things as it took a while to type!

Just thought of something. When you have copied the iTunes folder to the new computer, you need to tell iTunes where the library is.

Hold down the Shift key while you click to open iTunes…Make sure you keep the Shift key held down untill you see a dialog box appear.
This will let you choose where to load your Library from.

Now navigate to the iTunes Library.itl file from the iTunes folder you just copied over.

I am wondering about 2 more things now:

    1) DATA for CONTACTS

Both of the following a "structured data" for the AddressBook/Contacts that sync with each other.

Outlook 2007 (Contacts) (now in WinXP Pro SP3) and
iPhone (Contacts) (now on iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1)

My question is if I had to choose between one source, which would be the BETTER/ RICHER source of Data for re-population of data on 2 new systems:

    Windows 7 x64
    iPhone iOS 5.x

If so, how best would I migrate the data to the new systems. I am fine with SSH & iFunbox usage on iPhone. I can learn how to exactly backup and use Contacts also. But, I'd like to know whats best.

    2) Migrating WINDOWS LIVE MAIL as IT IS

What files, settings, folders/ paths should I copy/ backup & migrate to have Windows Live Mail be as similar as possible.

    Hi again,

Regarding question 1, the best way to do this is to get both the same. To make sure this is the case, just snyc your iphone as per normal. All changes on outlook and on the phone will be synced. Once the sync is complete, make sure it worked by opening up the contacts on both the iphone and the computer and manually check a few entries to see if they are the same. Then, sync again following the instructions I posted earlier:

    1. Open iTunes
It's right at the end by the way
    7. Sync

Question 2, These should help you export everything in windows live mail. How do I import and export email, contacts, and calendars with Windows Live Mail? - Import Email Messages or Back Up and Restore Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Mail - Export and Import Email Accounts

    Hope this helps
