Windows 7 installed Hard Drive turned into Dynamic Disk - reboots

Hello,
I turned my Windows 7 Home premium installed Hard Drive to a Dynamic Disk. Now the computer keeps restarting after bios. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I don't want to lose my data if possible.

Thanks,
Harry

Have a look at this tutorial.

Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk

Unfortunately, you will have to delete all partitions so you'll lose any data you haven't backed up. How or why did you convert the drive to a dynamic disk?

You can convert back to Basic non-destructively using free Partition Wizard bootable CD version 4.2 or earlier: pw422.zip ISO - Windows Live

Burn to CD using Windows Image Burner, boot CD, rightclick to Delete the partition which was created that caused it to warn HD was converting to Dynamic - you can only have four Primary or 3 Primary and unlimited Logical without converting to Dynamic. Click OK.

Now rightclick on the Win7 HD to highlight it, select Convert to Basic, OK, Apply.

Thanks greg and everybody esle I have solved it but now Windows 7 logo appears for like 8minutes and finally goes to the desktop. When the logo appears the hdd light turns off then after like 8 minutes it turns back on and loads to desktop. I have tried all the ideas I can think off, if you have any please tell me.

Thanks

Run Startup Repair a few times to see if the boot needs any repairs.

Next run Disk Check to check the file system, followed by HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

From there I'd work through general Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Thanks for the quick reply greg but I tried using the startup repair and it said it could not find any errors. For the Disk Check it is on 18% for a while now and the Hard Drive light is on but not flickering. Should I leave it on?

Yes, I'd rely on Disk Check and HD Diagnostics to give you a verdict on your HD. Sometimes it can repair problems but then I'd never rely on the disk again without backing up in real time.

The Disk Check finished but it did not change anything. Any ideas instead of re-installing windows 7 and i'm not sure it will solve the problem because most people got the problem after re-installing windows 7.

What problem do most people have after reinstalling when reconversion to Basic Disk results in performance problems?

To be honest I don't recall a time it wasn't reported to work successfully without issues. It would be good to find out why so I'd complete the HD Diagnostics extended CD scan and at least check your logs and System Resources in the Troubleshooting steps to look for clues.

Were there problem before converting to Dynamic? Why did you do it exactly?

Hi,

Basically this is a boxed computer that I bought and it came with Windows 7 installed somehow on dynamic disk. I wanted to dual boot windows 7 so I changed the disk from dynamic to Basic and created a partition and installed Windows 7 on it. It installed fine and I think it gave an error at the end but the computer restarted fine and I could choose any Windows 7 OS to go on. But both Windows 7 OS takes 8mins to load so I deleted the second OS I put on which was windows 7 and turned the disk from Basic to Dynamic and this is where I started my thread.

Current status is there is loads of errors on Event Viewer about booting and my Avira is saying always my wireless adapter is over flooded. Also I had trouble installing my graphics card on the OS I installed and I personally think its a driver issue but not sure.

I will do the HD Diagnostics extended CD Scan and do you want me to post a screenshot of the event viewer and how can I do that?

Thanks for all the help,
Harry
