Battery life on Acer Aspire 5000

    Good Morning everyone.

I recentally bought an acer aspire 5000 laptop on craigslist to replace my macbook that was stolen from the coffee shop... looked for another macbook but couldn't find any reasonably priced so decided to give windows 7 a try. it has windows 7 professional installed. 1.8 amd turion 64 processor and 2 gb ram. it needed a battery so i got a new one thru amazon. installed the new battery, charged it until indicator turned green. my question is is 2 2 hours and 10 minutes reasonable battery life or do i need to calibrate the battery monitor? new battery has been installed for almost 2 weeks. my macbook got almost 4 hours on a charge...

That is normal if you are have power settings to high performance on battery. if you have power settings to power saver mode, then it is a little short of life.

You're comparing apples and oranges, sorry couldn't help myself. :) Comparing your Mac to your Acer isn't a very good comparison. There are lots of factors that effect battery drain, the main one being hardware. As mentioned power settings will also effect it. One of the big determining factors is how big the battery is (how many cells) and what type of battery it is. You have to be careful where you buy your replacement too. Sometimes that really good deal ends up being a not so good deal. My Aspire 5920 will last a little over 2 hours if I set my power options conservatively. It's not a new battery so I try not to push it much past an hour and a half.

I have it set on the balanced power lan and get about 2 hours. so maybe the acer is much more power hungry than my apple was.

It could be a smaller battery battery too.
