Cannot login to Windows 7, created password not working

My brother recently bought a Dell laptop (Inspiron N5110). He created a password for his user account, and when he went to login during his next session, the password didn't work. The 'Create Password' field had two entry boxes, so the probability of an error in the password is quite small.

I have tried various password reset/recovery programs, but when I boot with the program, the user account is not displayed. Thus, I cannot reset or recover the password.

Booting in Safe Mode has been tried, but it also requires input of the user's password. Booting to the last safe configuration doesn't help, as there is nothing (apparent) wrong with the actual system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MK

The password is case sensitive. May have inadvertantly had caps lock engaged when the password was created. It's the easiest place to start and sometimes works.

I've tried entering it with caps lock on, and have tried capitalizing the first letter. An idea of mine was to reinstall Windows 7, as he has nothing yet installed on his computer. The only problem with that is that Dell didn't send an OS disc with the laptop. I have since requested one.

On the screen of where you choose safe mode you should have a option called "Repair your computer" and from that you can re-install windows without disk.

The restore process given by Dell may also help. It is the same information provided by Harry12 (thanks for that, by the way, Harry), but in comprehensive steps. Windows 7 PC Restore

The only problem with these steps is that once you enter 'Repair Computer', you need to login as a user. The only two users that are displayed are the normal user, plus HomeGroupUser$.

You mention you have tried various recovery programs, but if you haven't tried the following, give it a go;

You can activate the administrative user and use that: Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

You may need Method II of Built-in Administrator - Enable from WinRE

If you need Windows installation media, see steps 1-2 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
