Windows 7 x64 very slow in use plus 5min boot time

    Hi everyone

Over the last few weeks my computer seems to be slowing down considerably. To the point now where it takes +5mins to boot and once in operation programs/file browsing often lag and the "not responding" message appears. Also upon opening programs and files, windows lags and the blue loading circle just spins for minutes before opening.

For some strange reason, my internet also seems to be affected, such as entering an address into Chrome then having to wait a few minutes for it to even respond. However, I don't believe that to actually be my internet connection... rather than the system just running slowly.

I bought this system only a few months ago brand new and the spec is:

    Windows 7 Home Premium x64 bit SP1
    Intel Core i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz
    8gb RAM
My HDD is 984gb with over 700gb available
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

I have ran a variety of malware/spyware programs such as CCCleaner, AdAware, Malware Bytes and no virus's or malware has been detected. I also ran a registry cleaner and everything appears to be fine.

For my main anti virus program which runs in the background I have AVG - again this finds no issues.

I have followed advice on other forums which mention USB devices, blank one colour desktop backgrounds etc, however my computer is still as slow as ever.

I also tried a Windows Repair as suggested on an article I found however I was unable to complete this as a message appeared stating that the version I currently had was updated compared to my original windows cd/dvd

Any ideas or advice would be most welcome

    Thanks
    Rich

Try boot in safe mode and see if that reduces the boot time and if it gets stuck at a file name, what is it because I have the similar problem.

Hi - booted in safe mode and took around 4mins to boot so not much improvement. During boot it froze for a minute or two at CLASSPNP.SYS ... im not sure what file that is though or what it means?

Any ideas on that, or anything I wrote in the previous post?

    Thanks

Same here, my computer also gets stuck at classpnp.sys and takes like 8minutes to boot. Try going to msconfig at start and doing a Diagnostic Start-up and see if it improves any booting time but I doesn't on mine. Also when the computer starts, after bios go to the advanced boot options screen(for mine its F8) and enable boot logging. You can view the log in the Windows folder named ntblog and it shows what is loaded and what is not.

You both may have a corrupted system file.

Have a look at this tutorial, which explains how run a system file check from the command line.

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If you ran any Registry Cleaner other than CCleaner the it likely ruined your Win7. I would reverse the changes it made if it offers that feature, then uninstall it.

Most times however the effect this has on Win7 requires that you Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 -
the steps are the same for retail.

Otherwise work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Extremely long lagtimes for all Windows 7 x64

I ran all the suggestions you made above and my systems are still creeping along. Any other suggestions of what might be wrong (same as above discussion) and what else I can do to troubleshoot my computer. I also posted in BSOD forum because I'm having issues there to.
