Desktop icons don't display correctly (see screenshot)

Suddenly, my desktop icons seem to have another 'layer' on top the correct icon. Please see screenshot, which makes more sense than me!
Any help would be very much appreciated, as it's driving me nuts!!
    Thanks

    Phil

    Welcome to SF Foliofotos

Have you tried this: Shortcut Arrow - Change, Remove, or Restore

Yes, tried that a couple of times, but didn't work. As you can see, each icon has another 'common' icon placed over the top, but I have NO idea why!!

Hello Foliofotos, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

Did you use OPTION ONE in the tutorial above to restore the default shortcut arrow overlay?

Actually those are the shortcut overlays, the arrows ... somehow changed to the generic icons.

After trying the suggested fix, I gave up and turned the computer off. This morning .... yes, everything is fine, so thanks so much for all the suggestions!
