You have different hardware, different software..

Even one thing could trigger the entire thing corrupting. It may have gone well for you but it didn't go well for me (when I tried it ...). Some of my friends got it working perfectly, some had to completely reinstall everything (they were happy I made them back-up prior to the upgrades).

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Good point. It may not work as well for every possible configuration as it did for me. (And I should note that I did have to reinstall my security software (AV & Firewall), but I expected that and it only took a couple of minutes.) Even a clean install does not always work well for every configuration.

But as I said, before, there is no harm in giving an upgrade install a try, assuming one has everything properly backed up, which should always be done whether one is upgrading, clean installing or just generally whether installing a new OS or not.
