Windows 7 Home Premium is stuck on the Starting Windows screen

Our 64 bit desktop machine is stuck at the Starting Windows log in screen and I could use advice.

I have 4 Dell computers all using Windows 7- 1 on a single license and 3 on a 3 user license: 2 32 bit laptops and a 64 bit desktop. All 4 were upgraded within the last year from Vista. Two days ago the desktop was stuck on the Starting Windows screen. I fired up one of the laptops to troubleshoot and it had the same issue. I restarted the third computer, my son’s laptop, which was working fine, and it too had the same problem. All three were stuck at the Starting Windows screen for over 12 hours. The next day my son rebooted all 3 and the 2 laptops finally went to a log in screen, but the desktop is still stuck at Starting Windows.

I have tried System Repair and System Restore in Normal Mode. We are able to get into the system in Safe Mode with Networking and we did a virus and malware scan. I also have unplugged all external devices.

So far no luck. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like your network got infected.

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

Worst case scenario is you'll need to copy out your files to quarantine and clean reinstall the machines on which Win7 can't repair, but it's a much cleaner install than the Vista upgrade.
