    Instant Boot for Windows 7

Has anybody heard anything new on Instant Boot for Windows 7?

A mate of mine was telling me about it tonight as he has it on his ASRock Motherboard and it takes his PC about 4- 5 seconds to boot to the Desktop.

Is the ability to boot in such a short time a part of the BIOS or is it a small program that you install?

Looks like this is an ASRock feature. And it's been around since November 2008.

Other articles indicate it provides limited computer functionality. It still takes additional time for the computer to run a fully operational version of the operating system.

Instant boot works like this: the OS restarts to a fresh state, then enters sleep/hibernation. And it's certainly not instant when it wakes up, but it's faster than a cold boot. I prefer to stick with sleep for my laptops (and dekstops connected to an UPS) and standard hibernation for my desktops.
