I am hooked up to a UPS, but after that runs out and I am away, I sometimes need to remotely logon - in which case I need the computer on. If I need to change something in the BIOS, please give specifics of how to do this as I have looked in there and found nothing related to this.
Almost all the latest BIOSs have a setting for auto power on after power is restored.
In the BIOS in Advanced Power Management (APM) look for this option
Restore from AC power loss [always OFF| always ON| last state]
Set this to always ON, Save the BIOS settings and restart the system.

Yes, I do have a check mark next to the automatically restart.
RRaod, I am not seeing the advanced power management in my BIOS.
All it says under system information in the start up menu is: System BIOS CAR_716.ROM v7.16. Any other way to get the manufacture name?
Never heard this name! System Information is not the right place to get BIOS information.
All you have to do is enter the BIOS before the system loads windows. Most of the BIOSs open up with F1, F2, or F10 keys when the system has just started. Usually these key combinations are displayed on the black screen before the windows starts. Like "Press F2 to enter setup".
Once you enter the BIOS, the BIOS manufacturer's name will be on the top. The following links contain a list of BIOS manufacturers.

If you can find the name of the BIOS manufacturer, you can go to the respective manufacturer's website and download a BIOS manual. This will explain each setting and the implications of changing the values.
Try all the BIOS options carefully (without changing any values) till you find the Power options screen. Then make the necessary changes, save the settings and exit BIOS.
Type system information into the start menu search box and then when you open that screen see what it says for BIOS Version/Date. Also look at System Manufacturer and System model for more info. You can also get some of that info by pressing the windows key and the pause/break key.
Found it - American Megatrends. I was in the start-up menu (only was saying to press esc upon start up, but did have to press f10 - even thou nothing said that was an option). In setup utility and then under "advanced" was a "Power-on" menu and one of the choices was for after power loss. So looks like all set. Many thanks you guys.

Does the UPS perform a controlled shutdown of your computer after the main power goes off or are you letting the UPS just shutdown as it's batteries get low?
