Accidently changed all program defaults to winrar

Hey guys i have been reading on here b4 posting, but what's happened to me hasn't been answered.

I hastily clicked to open a .exe that was most likely a virus but wasnt detected as one.
The greyed out always open this program as a box was ticked. and now every .exe file tries to open using winrar.

    i read this forum : john13134

I accidentally changed all my rar File extensions..
can anyone tell me how do i get it back to Default
because i changed the default opening to i.e and now its not acting right
how to restore to default file extension?___________________________

But unlike the responses you gave him, i dont have the system restore option .

Please note every single exe file is now a zip file..

I cant backup cause the backup file is a zip. i cant find where to or how to get a key in the registry changed, cause regedit.exe is now a zip. my choice are very limited. i have a recent back up stored on ext drive but to execute it i'd have to run c:/windows/system32/sdclt.exe...... also a zip file..

Can anyone please help me restore my pc, b4 resorting to a full system reinstall.

Just remember if your method requires a .exe file hidden anywhere in windows It wont work. Your haste and support is greatly appreciated.
ps i would screenshot but mspaint.exe aint working either

Hello Darntech, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Download and merge the EXE option in the tutorial below to see if it may be able to help after restarting the computer. It will restore the default associations for EXE files.

    Hope this helps,

    Hey Shawn,

Mate You my friend are a life saver.
Your link worked Thank you very much. It enabled me to Use system restore, which in turn worked, However. while i still have functionality and all .exe files work... Do you have a quick solution to change all my shortcuts, scattered through OS back to original, They all work but all still look like .zip file short cuts? Restore didn't fix this issue.

Wow, I don't need the program right now Brink, but it's certainly a good thing to know that it exists. Doing it by hand would take ages!

    Thanks for the tip..... Bookmarked!

Download and merge the lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below to see if it may be able to help after restarting the computer. It will restore the default associations for shortcut files.
