First time posting. Not intentionally breaking rules/regs. Trying to repair niece's Acer 1430z laptop. The problem is the Window Boot Manager Error: 0xc000000f. Cannot access Insyde H2o bios to change boot selection because it is password protected and the machine came from a thrift shop. Now I know why it was cheap (bought it with her b/d money). I have used a usb CD/DVD player to try to run the Acer Recovery Disks. If I plug the WD Hard drive into my desktop, It shows image files and a temp file. (If I go into the temp file, there are text files I can read in notepad. Editing anything there will not change anything like the MBR, correct?)
I am not sure how to proceed. My thought is to wipe the HDD clean with a tool referred to on this site and start over with a) system or recovery disks from Acer, or b) download the Win 7 usb version also talked about on this site. There is a legitimate Windows product ID on the bottom of the laptop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
