    Cannot install to partition

I have an odd problem - I have 2 drives - one SATA one IDE on the motherboard to choose from. Both blank. The install program sees them, apparently can partition them (let's me into advanced options), but when i select either one to install to, gives an error that it cannot create the partition.

    Hello mweinmann,

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

My first thought is are they formatted as NTFS disks? If you can get into advanced options, let it format the drive you want to install on and see if that works.

    Please keep us posted.

no, I had started with both disks unpartitioned. i might do a zero bit wipe and try again, in case some data is interfering.

I would just let windows do a full (not a quick) format and give it a go from there.

Well, I decided to yank all other drives and only install to a 160 SATA motherboard hosted drive. Installed fine. I'm guessing the sata si3114 might be interfering again. i had an awful time getting vista 64 ultimate installed to that raid card. The drivers dont work properly for that card yet it seems. I tried to load the drives and the driver does not initialize.

Just a follow up - the manual instal of the silicon graphics SII3114 drivers got the driver in, but the device would not start. Windwos update had an updated driver that DID work. All raid devices now available in explorer.
