Hmm, that's strange. I buy practically all my bits at Newegg and never had any hassle returning defective parts. I wonder whether your problems is something very recent.

I have Amazon prime which gives you two day shipping. I got a defective Motherboard. They shipped me a new one in 2 days and I had something like 30 days to return the defective one. No hassle. I was quite impressed.
My personal complaint with newegg is the shoddy packaging and their return policy. I quit buying anything delicate from them after a few delicate items were received bouncing around in their packaging - one was a disk drive. I still shop their for sales on items like memory though, but hard disks, motherboards or a computer - Amazon for me.
I've ordered a ton from NewEgg and never had anything arrive damaged. Hard drives are always either in boxes or wrapped heavily in bubble wrap. If they bounce around a bit in a larger cardboard box, stuffed with paper, they will be fine.
I haven't had to do but 1 return to NewEgg and it went alright.
Not stuffed with paper. Not stuffed with anything.
And I am not saying Amazon shipping is stellar, but a fantastic return policy makes it the pick of the pack IMO.
But what I am saying is that everything that I have purchased, for home and for work is either stuffed with packing peanuts or paper. That's been my experience. If I had your experiences, I might feel quite a bit different.
In the past two years $2500 spent at Newegg with no problems in pricing, packaging or service.
New 24" monitor is on the way from Tennessee as I type.
It has been with returning a defective or DOA item, they charge 15% and I have to pay return shipping. I have always followed with a re-order too. I dislike the idea that I have to pay for the privilege of doing testing. I understand they will pay return shipping and void the 15% bit if you call Customer Service. As yet I have never been able to get them to answer.
I prefer amazon over those 2.Good fast service and had no problems with them.I ordered from newegg before but i find stuff cheaper on amazon most of the time.
Gary, as I said, I have bought a lot of stuff from Newegg since years. But this is the first time I heard about that 15% restocking charge. Whenever I wanted to return something, I called their service line which always was very responsive. They sent me a shipping label and I either ordered something else or got my money back.
But the Amazon story is interesting. I will now be checking more often with them too.
