BIOS problem starting windows and computer crashes during hibernation.

For no apparent reason suddenly
laptop won't start like it used to, now the makers screen appears first and instead of going into Windows boot up, It does nothing and has to be prompted . It only loads windows now when pressing another key . Another problem connected to that, if I put the computer into hibernation or sleep and restart, I find Windows has crashed every time.
When pressing Windows 7 solution finding option, the message below arrived
Consider BIOS upgrade
Microsoft is unable to determine the exact cause of this error. However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your computerís random access memory (RAM). RAM is the main internal storage area the computer uses to run programs and store data.
During the crash analysis, we noticed the basic input/output system (BIOS) version on this computer does not match the specifications for the central processing unit (CPU), also known as a processor, that is installed on your computer. This can occur when a newer processor is installed on an older system board or older BIOS. Using a BIOS that does not support the installed processor can result in Windows system crashes. Contact your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer for an updated version of BIOS for your computer's processor.
However none of the reason given apply to my problem, computer just started doing this for no apparent reason one day. and from what I can see on makers website the BIOS on there is identical to what I have-looked for update but the zip download folder on upgrade site, had the same number as the BIOS version number 3601, so assume its the same and no point to upgrade.
Is it worth going into BIOS and try default settings? although friend suggested this could be a problem and really screw things up!
