How do I open XP icon libraries which have libraries within them

I am new to Windows 7, and have the rest of my computers running XP. I have a number of icon libraries in a folder c:\icons which contain contain icon libries within them. eg C:\icons\animals.ico contains further folders cats.ico, dogs.ico ...

I have not been able to get Windows 7 to open these, although XP did. I would like to keep my Windows 7 desktop looking similar to my XP desktops.

Thanks for any help.

What do you mean by 'open'? Open the icons for editing? Open the C:\Icons folder? Something else?

(just to clarify)

In XP, these icon libraries get opened and I can select an icon from them In Windows 7, the system tells me that there are no icons inside my .ICO libraries.
