Windows 7 Virus - File \Boot\BCD Missing, Operating System Not Found

I must have been infected with a virus. It happened during the day when I was at work and my computer was on standby. I came home and found the Operating System Not Found error on my black screen. I downloaded the Wondershare Liveboot and ran that and it froze. My son stopped it because he downloaded the Windows 7 Operating System installation program on a USB drive and tried to load that to reload Windows 7. Now all I can get is a black screen telling me my File: \Boot\BCD file is missing.

I have a Dell Inspirion Laptop with 8 GB memory, 250 GB hard drive. 64 bit operating system.

Where do I find the File: \Boot\BCD to reload on my computer. I can't access the partition, the recovery program, nothing.

Can someone please help me?!

Desperate. I've had this computer only six months, and yes I had a full Virus Scan program on my computer.

If you have only had the system for 6 months then call dell and tell them the error you get. They are very good at supporting current customers that are under their warranty. It sort of sounds like you had the computer turned off during an update in progress. My son did the same thing to the PC I built for him and we ended up replacing the drive to fix it. That is not to say that your drive is bad but mine is a real nice paper weight on a windy day.

May be calling Dell will help you out. However if you want to try reinstalling W7 again then please delete the System Volume Partition first and then only start reinstalling W7.

Kindly also fill up your complete System Specs as best as you can. It is a great help to those who want to volunteer help.

Hi,

My name is Jaspreet and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. As per the information provided by you an operating system file is missing. First of all we will have to check if there is a issue with the hard drive. To run the diagnostics on the hard drive please follow the below mentioned steps:

· Start your computer and keep tapping F12 key.
· Select Diagnostics option and run the diagnostics and please reply if you get any error code .

In case if you are not getting any error messages then you will have to do PC restore or clean operating system reinstallation using the discs which came along with your computer.
Kindly revert back for any clarification.

Thanks,
Dell-Jaspreet K
