computer w/Win 7 64 bits won't start. Safe launch a

Sending this from my phone since nothing works.

My computer crashed while performing an update I think. I saw that it was performing updates so I went to do something else. When I came back computer was off. I tried to turn it on but it gets to the screen where I usually enter my password and stops there (before the login window appears)

Tried Launch startup repair but didn't work
Tried Safe Launch but didn't work
Tried booting from last known good configuration but didn't work
Tried repair your computer but all I get is 'Windows is loading files' then it goes to the login screen but nothing appears.

Can't find my install disk...

Sometimes before it crashes I see a blue error screen flicker but it's gone before I can read it.

I'm not the most tech savvy person but I can follow simple instructions. Any help would be appreciated.

Also ran a memory diagnostics tool. It says that no problems were detected but I can't see the actual results because they are displayed after I log on but I don't get there

You need to find your install disc or download one from Digital Life and create a new install DVD: Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) My Digital Life

I recommend using ImgBurn to create a new DVD, Burn at 4X or slowest speed available. Boot it, take the Repair path and get to a Command Prompt.

Type chkdsk /f and press Enter. Let it run to completion. Try booting and see if that fixes it. If not boot the DVD again, take the Repair path only this time chose System Restore. See if that helps.

You'll have to download and create the DVD on another computer since yours is not working unless you find your install DVD.

Thank you SO much! I'm burning a new CD as we speak and I'll do what you suggested as soon as it's ready. I'll let you know (and make as solved) as soon as my computer is up and running again.

I burned the CD using ImgBurn as per your instructions, 4x speed. It said the CD was successfully created.

I was able to boot my computer using the CD and I get to the screen where I'm asked to 'install now' or 'repair your computer'. I chose 'repair your computer' and the window disappears but nothing happens after. It's not 'thinking' or anything...

I hate my computer right now!

Does the hard drive show up in BIOS Setup? It sounds like it could be a hard drive problem. Try testing it, see here:

Another possibility may be memory has gone bad. Worth looking into. The easiest way to do this is to remove one or more of the memory modules (with power off!), then try booting the DVD again. If the same problem, swap out the remaining ram (with power off) with the ones you already removed and test again.

Also, disconnect all USB devices except mouse and keyboard, and test.

If the HD is detected in BIOS setup, then test it with the diagntostics Rich linked for you, and Disk Check.

If the HD is good, work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot
